Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) is a UK-based ocean conservation charity, established by the team behind the award-winning document on overfishing, The End of the Line. Working with governments, NGOs, businesses and influential individuals, BLUE’s mission is to increase the proportion of global ocean formally protected by marine reserves.
When the charity was founded, this figure stood at just one per cent – today, BLUE’s work in locations as diverse as Chagos, Belize and Lyme Bay has helped it rise to 2.3 per cent. Ultimately, the charity aims to secure active and effective protection for at least 10 per cent of the world’s oceans by 2020.
