Associate Director - 12 month FTC

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Associate Director to join our strategic communications team, to support the delivery and leadership of our work in the UAE on an initial 12-month, fixed term contract. The successful candidate will work closely with the London team, reporting into the Director and Partner of our MENA work and will be seconded to our clients in Abu Dhabi. The role includes new business development and day-to-day management of the key account.

It’s crucial that the successful candidate has an ability to provide counsel to senior Government clients, in Arabic and English and bridge between leadership in London and the UAE.

You will be the on-the-ground client lead for Freuds, adept at giving strong strategic direction and confident in sharing your sector expertise and experience. You will be a team player and when necessary, get stuck in to ensure delivery within short timelines. You will have a key role in driving the communications narrative for local and international media, partnerships and stakeholder management. Key Responsibilities

  • Developing creative communications strategies and campaigns ensuring their successful delivery, working closely with strategy and creative teams to ensure effective planning
  • Securing the confidence of the client and colleagues as a senior communications advisor and operational member of the team on a wide range of consumer and corporate campaigns; across earned, social, experiential
  • Contributing strategy, solutions and proactively introducing new ideas to improve our offering
  • Must have operated as a primary, day to day client lead with senior support and managing a team to define strategies and delivers programmes
  • Should be comfortable running meetings, workshops and steering committees both with senior comms people and senior stakeholders within a business
  • Providing immediate communications support for senior clients on developing reputational issues, including out of hours assistance as the primary client contact
  • Securing the confidence of colleagues as a senior communications advisor on a wide range of communications issues and disciplines
  • Writing crisis and issues preparation plans for clients to anticipate and mitigate against media-facing reputational challenges
  • Handling day-to-day issues for a portfolio of major clients, including front line media relations
  • Stress testing client crisis strategies through issues workshops and crisis simulations
  • Developing corporate positioning, messaging and narrative frameworks
  • Participating in, and leading, new business development, including originating leads and managing pitch meetings, presentations and proposals
  • Contributing strategy and solutions to new business efforts and proactively introducing new ideas to improve our offering
  • Proactively building internal and external networks with colleagues, opinion leaders, journalists, professional associations, online influencers and other relevant third parties
  • Line managing and mentoring junior team members, including responsibility for their evaluation and professional development
  • Working closely with the Director on the account, ensuring they have oversight of current and upcoming activations
  • Enthusiasm and a ‘can-do’, proactive attitude
  • Promoting a supportive working environment for your team, demonstrating exceptional leadership qualities and lead by example in your commitment to your role
  • You will have the ability to work at both senior client level and flex to a more operational publicist level when required to hit tight deadlines
  • Strong project manager – holding the right balance between knowing the necessary detail and ensuring more junior team report back effectively
  • You will have gravitas to hold a room of senior clients and agency partners
  • You are an excellent proposal writer; you are succinct and focused with pitching of ideas to clients
  • Ability to deliver strategically led creative campaigns
  • Flexible in the way that you work, offering to work across the agency not just in your specialist area as you are dedicated to the success of the wider agency
  • Client first mentality – enjoy building lasting relationships with clients on a personal and professional level  
  • Ability to manage budgets, including drafting Scopes of Work, proposals and fee forecasting
  • Knowledge and experience of working with high level talent and c-suite, not afraid to step in when sitting in interviews with senior management.
  • Knowledge and experience of overseeing shoots, content creation for earned and owned media
