In 2014, on the third anniversary of the conflict in Syria, Crisis Action launched a global appeal through organisations and key individuals calling on political leaders to do everything they could to make this the last year marked by bloodshed. To achieve this, an evocative animation featuring Banksy’s iconic “Girl With A Red Balloon” was released. freuds reworked this to feature a young Syrian refugee, and Idris Elba lent his voice, asking those watching the video to “stand with Syria”.
All around the world people recreated their own image holding a red balloon and shared the message #WithSyria via Twitter and Instagram. These were displayed on the withsyria.com website designed and managed by freuds. That evening, the projection of the Banksy image and the animation was shown in over 40 countries at a series of iconic locations.
