Hephzibah Kwakye-Saka helps run yoyo tinz, a media platform based in Accra, Ghana, that promotes hip hop for everyone who wishes to know more about this rich and diverse culture. It all started in 2013, when the creative director realised that the hip hop culture was misunderstood, and that hip hop artists were not well represented on the Ghanaian entertainment scene. Besides, artists had and still have no proper platform to sell their music on the continent.
yoyo tinz aims to present talented hip hop artists from Africa and its diaspora, cultural operators who want to headline hip hop artists, and of course artists themselves, encouraging collaborations and meeting of styles, by providing a platform to share information about the culture. The website publishes in-depth articles featuring well established, as well as underground artists, has a database of hip hop artists and organises hip hop related events. Finally, yoyo tinz documents and archives everything related to hip hop in Africa.
All of this is made possible thanks to a team of volunteers. We are proud to count among the yoyo tinz family: photographers, videographers, writers, events organisers and one resident DJ. We are a multicultural team with members from Ghana, France, USA and UK.
